Seminar on Africa Diaspora youth living in Europe

 “Inclusion has to come from inside – Building

12-19th September, 2010 CEULAJ (Euro-Latin American youth center) Mollina – Spain

We have realized that African youth Diaspora living in Europe has an amazing potential that has not been recognized and used both by European and Africa society and it’s institutions. After having a first moment to analyze and reflect on the reality of the Africa youth Diaspora in Europe in the 1º Training Course for African Diaspora youth leaders living in Europe that took place from the 6th to the 12th of December 2009 in Lisbon – Portugal, we decided to take the step forward and create a space dedicated to the development of an official network that will enable us to represent the interest of African Diaspora youth living in Europe and at the same time to find ways and strategies to contribute to the development of Europe and Africa society.

Therefore we decided to develop a seminar dedicated to the themes of inclusion and participation we where we expect to bring youth leaders, youth workers and other main actors working with and for African youth in Europe to discuss the role of an African Diaspora youth network in Europe and to address the present and future challenges that this network will face.

General Objectives:

  • To promote dialogue between different youth organizations and organizations of Africa diaspora, to facilitate better integration of young African migrants and youth with African background into European societies;
  • To create the space to discuss ways that can maximize the engagement of Africa diaspora youth living in Europe, both in the countries of origin and in the host countries, and have them recognized as key development actors for European and African societies;
  • To involve and reflect with other actors the role and challenges of ADYNE, in a way that contributes for the network to enlarge it’s vision, representation and impact in European and Africa societies.  During one week 25 youth leaders coming from all Europe will be working on how to empower young African migrants and young people with African migrant background to better represent their interests in our society. Discussing the roles and challenges of youth organizations and youth networks in this process. There will also be a space to reflect on ways to fulfil the current gap of youth diasporas, and of the Africa youth diaspora in particular, regarding their representation in existing youth organizations, and other structures involved in decision making of youth policies.

Using a non formal education methodology we will insure the participation of all and this way empower the group to have a more active role in shaping today’s Europe and Africa societies.
